(Cancer, 1985) Ruby is based on a painting that I have yet to see. I saw a photograph of a painting entitled "Ruby Green Singing" in a magazine in 1954. It stuck in my mind for over 30 years, and Ruby's pose was inspired by that painting. I'm hoping that a collector can tell me where the painting now hangs. It is sometimes hard for statues to convey movement, and although Ruby is standing still, one has the feeling that the notes are still hanging in the air. She is perhaps a gospel singer, or even an opera diva. She is standing on sheet music for "Coming Through the Rye", a piece often used for encores by concert singers. The Symphony Conductor is a natural companion for Ruby. And when placed near the Nativity set, one can almost hear Ruby singing a Christmas carol."
